1. What is Nexgard Spectra?

Nexgard Spectra is an oral form of flea treatment for dogs and it provides the complete protection against fleas, ticks, heartworms, and intestinal worms through regular monthly treatments.

2. How long do Nexgard spectra protect my dog from fleas and ticks?

Nexgard Spectra once given provides protection for an entire month from fleas and ticks. Hence, it is advised to be given on monthly basis and if it’s given on the same date of each month, nothing better than this.

3. How does Nexgard Spectra differ from Nexgard?

Nexgard contains afoxolaner as a prominent ingredient which kills both fleas and ticks and is proven to prevent them from re-emerging for a whole month. Whereas,  Nexgard Spectra contains both afoxolaner and milbemycin oxime. Afoxolaner provides the same effective level of protection against fleas and ticks and milbemycin oxime provides protection against heartworms and intestinal worms.

It is a one-stop protection against fleas and ticks, heartworms and intestinal worms in just one tasty chew.

4. What is the preferred dose? Is it related to my dog’s weight?

5. Are Nexgard spectra effective against heavy flea infestations?

Yes, it is very much effective against heavy or medium flea infestations. However, it might take more than a month’s treatment to get in full control of flea infestation and eliminate them. When heavy flea infestation exists fleas can grow subsequently because of the presence of flea eggs, larvae and pupae in the surroundings and on a pet. This phenomenon is called “re-emergence’.

So just continue the treatment and in a couple of months, you will see that heavy or medium flea infestation is brought to an end.

6. Can Nexgard spectra help to control Flea Allergy Dermatitis (FAD)?

It’s a god’s gift for the dogs who suffer from FAD because it shows the immediate effect by killing adult fleas within 6-7 hrs after consumption of chew. It also has a month-long efficacy which is a boon. To save your pal from FAD’s irritation, monthly treatment with Nexgard Spectra should be the continued year long. It prevents “re-infestation”.

7. Can Nexgard Spectra be given to heartworm positive dogs?

The use of Nexgard Spectra on a positive heartworm dog has not been evaluated. Consult your veterinarian immediately to find out about the treatment and prevention program.

8. Do Nexgard spectra need to be given with food?

You need not have to give it with food because of its beef taste. All the dogs around the world love this chew. However, if you want, you can give it with food but make sure that your dog completes the meal as half left meal will result to under dosing.

9. Can a Nexgard spectra chew be split so I can dose more than one dog?

No, please don’t do that. It might result in under dosing. Each chew is meant to be fully consumed by a single pet as per their weight.

10. What age can Nexgard spectra be used from?

It can be given to the puppies more than 8 weeks of age and weighing more than 2 kgs.

11. How long after administering Nexgard spectra can my dog be bathed or go swimming?

Unlike some topical formulations or collars, Nexgard Spectra is not affected by swimming or bathing because it is an oral form of treatment. Immediately after the dose is given your dog can go out and play, exercise or swim.

12. How do I dose a dog that weighs more than 60 kg with Nexgard spectra?

Administer an appropriate combination of chewable, For Example – for 80 kg dog; administer one 30.1–60 kg chew together with one 15.1–30 kg chew.

13. Why doesn’t Nexgard Spectra cover tapeworms?

Nexgard Spectra does not contain praziquantel. This active ingredient – Praziquantel used to control tapeworms is bitter in taste because of which palatability is compromised.

14. Can it be given to pregnant or lactating dogs?

Use of Nexgard Spectra is still not evaluated in breeding, lactating or pregnant dogs. Please get in touch with your vet for suitable treatments.

15. Can it be given to a dog having a history of epilepsy?

If your dog has a history of epilepsy or any other seizure disorders consulting your vet before proceeding is recommended.
